What is a public exhibition?

When Council puts something on public exhibition it means that anyone can look at and comment on it. By putting these documents on exhibition, we are giving the community the chance to look at them and provide feedback before they are finalised. This feedback helps us understand if there is something we need to add or change before the plans are adopted.

    What happens to my submission?

All submissions received during the exhibition period will be included in the Business Paper and discussed at the Council meeting on Wednesday 18 December 2024.

This process provides an opportunity for our community members to have their concerns heard and suggestions considered prior to the finalisation and adoption of the draft documents.

What is the Community Engagement Policy?

The Community Engagement Policy formalises Council’s commitment to better decision making through meaningful engagement. It prescribes a set of organisational rules, a methodology and principles to ensure that Council engagement is consistent and follows best practice.

What is the Community Engagement Strategy?

The Community Engagement Strategy is a legislated document which outlines Council’s approach to engagement. It provides transparency and clarity for all stakeholders so they can understand their role in decisions they are interested in or impacted by, in order to achieve better outcomes for our community and environment. The Strategy defines who, when and how we will engage. The level of community involvement varies depending on the project and the potential impact of the decision.

What is a Community Participation Plan?

The Community Participation Plan is a legislated document which outlines how you can get involved in local and City-wide land use planning to achieve better outcomes for today as well as the future. The plan covers legislative requirements for mandatory public engagement for all of Council’s planning functions. It builds on the approach established by the Community Engagement Strategy and includes specific information about community participation on planning and development decisions in the Narrabri Shire Local Government Area (LGA).

    How can you provide feedback?

There are plenty of ways that you can get involved:

    • Complete our online survey
    • Complete a hard copy survey at one of the following places: libraries (Boggabri, Narrabri and Wee Waa)
    • Complete a hard copy at our Admin Building (46-48 Maitland Street Narrabri)
    • Attend a community pop-up stall at one of our towns and villages.

Our Narrabri Shire 2035 - Community Strategic Plan allows us to consider what we love about where we live, what we would like our future to look like, and how will we get there.

Who can participate in the Our Narrabri Shire 2035 - Community Strategic Plan

All residents, ratepayers and visitors to the Narrabri Shire local government area are encouraged to have their say on the future through the Our Narrabri Shire 2035 - CSP consultation process. This can be done through the online survey or at one of our pop-ups.

Is there a way I can provide further detailed feedback?

Yes, please send an email to council at council@narrabri.nsw.gov.au(External link) with the subject line: Our Narrabri Shire 2035 - Community Strategic Plan

Will my suggestions now go into the CSP?

The simplest answer is - it depends… on available money, available human resources and whether other stakeholders agree with the suggestion.

It’s fair to say that a large proportion of suggestions will be included - but some suggestions are likely to be beyond the capabilities of Council, other levels of government, or the community to deliver.

However, that should not stop you making suggestions. Much of the Community Strategic Plan is aspirational, and if enough members of the community share those aspirations they should be included in the plan. Council will work with its partners, including State agencies and community organisations etc where responsibilities fall outside Council's remit.
