How Council communicates with its community is about more than sharing information. It's about building trust, creating understanding, encouraging participation and strengthening connections across the Narrabri Shire.

Narrabri Shire Council has prepared a draft Connected Communities: Communications, Marketing and Community Engagement Strategy 2026-2029, which outlines how Council will communicate, engage and connect with residents, businesses, visitors and community groups over the next four years.

The Strategy brings together communications, marketing and community engagement under a single framework and focuses on creating informed, connected and engaged communities that trust, understand and actively participate in shaping the future of the Narrabri Shire.

The draft Strategy is guided by five key focus areas:

  1. Building trust through transparency
  2. Strengthening community and place connection
  3. Creating meaningful content
  4. Encouraging participation and closing the loop
  5. Building a communication culture

The Strategy is designed to be flexible and adaptable, recognising that communication methods, technology and community expectations will continue to evolve. Rather than prescribing specific tools or channels, it focuses on the outcomes Council is seeking to achieve and the principles that will guide decision-making.

Council invites the community to review the draft Strategy and provide feedback during the public exhibition period.

Exhibition Period: 29 October 2026 to 26 November 2026

Feedback received during the exhibition period will be considered before the Strategy is presented back to Council for adoption.
